The useful part here is the cab spec, not just the engine. Air-suspended adjustable seat, air con or a 2 kW heater, cruise control, shelves above the screen... that stuff matters after a full day on local runs. The multifunction wheel is nice too, less reaching around while driving. Textile trim is basic, and it will need regular cleaning if you work in muddy yards, but that’s normal. Safety kit looks solid: ABS, EBS, stability control and collision warning are all things I want on a city truck.

The cab spec is decent for a work truck. Air-suspended adjustable seat, air con or a 2 kW heater, cruise control, nav, plus shelves over the windscreen. That matters when you spend all day doing drops. The multifunction wheel is useful too. Textile trim is fine, nothing fancy, but it should be easy enough to live with. I’d pick the air rear suspension if the load changes a lot; leaf springs are simpler but can be less pleasant on rough streets.

I drove an FL 240 5.1D on municipal-type runs (bins, small equipment, that kind of stuff). What I noticed first was visibility and how easy it is to place the truck. Low-ish cab profile helps, and it doesn’t feel like you’re steering a bus.

Ride depends a lot on the rear setup. The one I had was on springs, and yeah, empty it can bounce a bit over broken city roads. If you can spec air suspension in the back, I’d do it. Makes the day calmer.

Inside: cloth trim is whatever, but the wheel controls + cruise are useful when you’re bouncing between ring road and city. Digital tacho + nav is fine, does the job. The heater/AC setup is simple and works.

No drama truck. Not perfect, but for urban/regional work it fits.

Drove an FL 240 5.1D Euro VI as a municipal-type runabout (bins, equipment, short hops). It’s nimble, that’s the main thing. Low cab profile helps with visibility in traffic, and the halogen + fogs are fine for early mornings.

I like that Volvo didn’t skip the basics: collision warning + stability control + EBS/ABS. In busy intersections that stuff matters, even if you’re not thinking about it every second.

Cab comfort is decent. The air-suspended seat is good, steering wheel buttons keep your hands where they should be. But the interior is pretty plain, textile trim and DIN slots, nothing fancy. If you’re expecting long-haul comfort you’ll feel it’s built for day work.

I only had it for shorter shifts, so I can’t talk deep reliability stories. For the spec it’s what you’d expect.

We’ve got an FL240 in the fleet set up with different bodies depending on the job (box van one week, platform the next kinda deal). That flexibility is a big plus. The truck itself is sized right for city delivery, doesn’t feel clumsy in tight loading docks.

Engine is the D5K240, 5.1L. It’s not fast, but it holds speed fine and doesn’t feel stressed doing normal regional runs. If you get the manual, it’s straightforward. Auto is nicer in traffic though, less leg work.

Tech is enough: digital tachograph, nav, cruise. Nothing to learn for days, you jump in and go. Suspension options matter too. I’ve been in the spring rear one and it’s a bit choppy empty; with air rear it rides calmer.

Comfort is solid for a medium truck: AC/heater, air seat, storage. I do wish the cab had a bit more sound isolation, but yeah, it’s a city truck.

For upkeep costs I’d call it normal Volvo money, not cheap but not crazy if you keep on top of it.
